5 Things You Must Do While in Chicago

Chicago, Illinois is one of our favorite travel destinations. Situated on Lake Michigan, there are activities for everyone that you will enjoy. Chicago gives you the big city experience, while still being accessible. Chicago has a robust public transportation system, allowing easy navigation throughout the city.

If you find yourself in Chicago, you won't want to miss these 5 experiences.

1. Go to the top of Willis Tower

The Willis Tower is located on Wacker Drive in the heart of downtown. This 110-story building is a staple of the Chicago skyline. On the 103rd floor is the Skydeck, which allows visitors a view high above the Chicago skyline. A 60 second elevator ride gets you to the top of the highest observation deck in the United States. While at the top, you can feel the sway in the building, which can put in perspective just how high above the ground you are. On the Skydeck, there are also glass observation windows, which allow you to stand on a glass bottom floor 103 stories above the city below.

2. Spend the day on Navy Pier

Navy Pier is a great place to spend time in the windy city. The pier extends into Lake Michigan and has amusement rides, restaurants, walking paths, and more. This is also the dock for multiple local boat cruise rides. We love spending time in Crystal Gardens, which is a large botanical garden located on Navy Pier.

3. Lincoln Park Zoo

For another budget friendly option while visiting Chicago, check out the Lincoln Park Zoo. The zoo is free to enter and is home to a wide assortment of animals. You will find shows highlighting the seals and apes in the zoo. This is a great spot for kids, there is an inexpensive train and carousel that they will love.

4. Shedd Aquarium

There are multiple museums and attractions in Chicago, but our favorite is Shedd Aquarium. Shedd puts extra effort into marine conservation and animal rehab, meaning your ticket price goes to a good cause. Shedd has beluga whales, which is a highly entertaining exhibit. You will also find many native species to Lake Michigan, which will give you a further understanding of the great lake Chicago calls home.

5. For the sports fans out there, attending a Cubs game at Wrigley Field is a must do. Not only is the game a historic experience, but the atmosphere surrounding Wrigley is also a bunch of fun. There are many bars and restaurants in the area that you can get a cold drink or a Chicago style meal.
